Welcome to the Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) website.

Our current activities were initially hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. The Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) is a non-government organization body that focuses on all issues relating to plant protection and their allied field.

Persatuan Perlindungan Tumbuh-tumbuhan Malaysia or wholly know as Malaysian Plant Protection Society was established in 1976 by Dr. George Varghese, the founder and the first President of MAPPS. The Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) was officially inaugurated in 8 March 1977 by the Register of Society. The primary objective of the Society is to promote scientific and advancement of all aspects of research and practices plant protection in Malaysia. MAPPS is the leading professional body which have full concerned with agriculture sector and plant protection field in Malaysia.

Over 34 years of its existence, the Society has grown significantly in terms of membership and to date MAPPS has over 186 members, comprising 85 life members, 101 ordinary members, and 10 sustaining associate members. Its members are drawn from government departments, statutory organizations, research institutes, universities, plantations, and commercial firms all over the country.

MAPPS AWARDS



MAPPS encourages excellence through awards coffer to successor of plant protection in the tropics. At present, one awards is open to public such as follows:
  • MAPPS BEST STUDENT AWARDS
The MAPPS Best Student Award in Crop Protection in every year. It is a yearly event which selected the best student thesis to coffer an award for highest achievement in Crop Protection field. The award will be judged base on the quality of the thesis content, inputs clarity, and its presentation achievement during final results convey at thesis defend session. The recipient will received RM1,000 and coffer a certificate of merit. This award aims to encourage young apprentice in scientific research and encourages undergraduate student to do research during degree candidature in the topic of Crop Protection. For further details, please contact our Honorary Secretary HERE. 
Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) have given six (6) Student Award from 2005 until 2011 to the following names: 
1. Ms. Ivy Chai Ching Hsia, a graduate of Bachelor of Bioindustrial Science 2004/2005 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her final project topic was Toxicity ofJerangau, Acorus calamus L. Against the Diamondback Moth, Plutella xylostellaL. She graduates in March 2005. Her project supervisor was Prof. Dr. Dzolkifli Omar from Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM. 
2. Ms. Nur Fariza Azura binti Tajul Urus, a graduate of Bachelor of Agricultural Science 2005/2006 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her final project topic was Movement ofCucumber Mosaic Virus on Chillies (Capsicum annum) and Cucumber (Cucumissativus). She graduated in March 2007. Her project was supervised by Mr. Zakaria Sidek from Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM and Dr. Mohamad Roff Mohd. Noor from MARDI. 
3. Ms. Phang Pau Yee, a graduate of Bachelor of Agricultural Science 2007/2008 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Her final project topic was Preliminary Screening of Venomous Spiders for Controlling Spodoptera exigua Larvae supervised by Dr. Lau Wei Hong from Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM. 

4. Mr. Mohamad Syukri Tan Shilan, a graduate of Bachelor of Agricultural Science 2008/2009 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. His final project topic was The Diversity of Ichneumonoid Parasitoids (Hymenoptera: Ichreumonidae) in Paddy Field supervised by Dr. Nur Azura Binti Adam from Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM. 
5. Ms Sathis Sri A/P Thanarajoo, a graduate of the Bachelor of Agriculture Science degree in 2010. Her final year project topic was Identification of Pathogen Associated withStem Canker in Jatropha curcas under the supervision of Dr. Ganesan A/L Vadamalai from Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, UPM.

6. Ms. Maisarah bt. Burhanuddin a graduate of the Bachelor of Agriculture Science degree in 2011. Her final year project topic was C01 gene analysis of female Nephilidae spider from Lojing, Kelantan. She was coffered the MAPPS Best Student Award in Crop Protection on 17th October 2011 at Agriculture Hall, Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
  • MAPPS EDUCATION TRUST FUND (ETF)
In line with the vision of the Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) to become the premier society that will promot and advance the science and practice of plant protection in the tropics. MAPPS encourages excellence through awards coffer to successor of plant protection in the tropics. MAPPS through its Education Trust Fund (ETF), is will soon be officially launching two new schemes to public such as follows:
  1. MAPPS Excellence Award in Plant Protection in The Tropics
  2. MAPPS ETF Grants for Small and Medium Scale Projects
