Welcome to the Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) website.

Our current activities were initially hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. The Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) is a non-government organization body that focuses on all issues relating to plant protection and their allied field.

Persatuan Perlindungan Tumbuh-tumbuhan Malaysia or wholly know as Malaysian Plant Protection Society was established in 1976 by Dr. George Varghese, the founder and the first President of MAPPS. The Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) was officially inaugurated in 8 March 1977 by the Register of Society. The primary objective of the Society is to promote scientific and advancement of all aspects of research and practices plant protection in Malaysia. MAPPS is the leading professional body which have full concerned with agriculture sector and plant protection field in Malaysia.

Over 34 years of its existence, the Society has grown significantly in terms of membership and to date MAPPS has over 186 members, comprising 85 life members, 101 ordinary members, and 10 sustaining associate members. Its members are drawn from government departments, statutory organizations, research institutes, universities, plantations, and commercial firms all over the country.

International Agriculture Congress 2012 (IAC2012)

This year 2012, MAPPS was proud to announce a collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia and 9 other honorarily societies on the conduct of the International Agriculture Congress 2012 (IAC2012) which was held on 4-6 September 2012, Putrajaya Marriot Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia. MAPPS was invited to be one of the organizer in this event. The conference was a great success with over 250 participants attended this 3 days event. We would like to present our highest appreciation to the Faculty  of  Agriculture,  Universiti  Putra  Malaysia for being the host of this remarkable event. From the beginning of agriculture revolution in the golden era of Malaya and now Malaysia, the Faculty  of  Agriculture UPM has done its best and take the challenge on revitalizing the agriculture industry for future assurance. The organization has become the  centre  of  excellence (COE)  in  teaching  and  research  in tropical agriculture, and proudly to host the IAC 2012 with the theme “Transforming Agriculture for Future Harvest”.

This prestigious event has draw many interested parties especially  researchers,  academicians,  policy  makers, agricultural practitioners, entrepreneurs and students.


Here are some glimpse of IAC2012 objectives such as below:-
  • Create a forum for intellectual dialogue to discuss, deliberate and disseminate innovative ideas and findings to further modernize agriculture.
  • Expose participants to advanced and proven technologies in agriculture.
  • Showcase innovations, strategies and policies to enhance productivity.

The  congress  was included with a  two  days  of  Scientific  Sessions and Exhibition. There were multitude of Keynote, Plenary, Oral and Poster presentations. A part from that, the IAC2012 also conducted a one-day  post-congress  tour  to  several  successful commercial ventures in Malaysia.  The post-congress tour was held on the 6th of September to the locations listed;

  • IADA (Integrated Agricultural Development Area) Northwest Selangor in Kuala Selangor - high yielding paddy field area,
  • ar-Raudah Biotech Farm in Sungai Buloh - modern livestock centre,
  • Sungai Sireh Homestay in Tajung Karang - traditional cultural experience of village lifestyle.
