Where are all those who have the potential talent and
very interested parties that active in the field of plant protection in the
tropics? It’s an issue that we should discus long time ago, which we have been
missing a quite number of members since deactivation of our Journal of
Plant Protection in the Tropics and also
MAPPS Newsletter in year 2004. If I am not mistaken, our last newsletter was
out published and printed is the MAPPS Newsletter Jun-December 2003, Volume 23,
Issue 2. It have been our last publication and stop due to members depleted in the
society.
With the current President of MAPPS 34th Council and Council Members, we are committed to move MAPPS forward and to take back its place in agriculture industry. The return of the MAPPS gives an
opportunity for the current MAPPS Council to promote and bring changes to the
34 years old MAPPS.
"With
this urgency, we need to recollect all that we have lost and restructure our approaches in order to meet niche of interested parties
to draw participation in the society activities. We are
welcoming thinkers and fresh new comers to join our event in the near future".

Persatuan Perlindungan Tumbuh-tumbuhan Malaysia or Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) was established in 1976 with Dr. George Varghese as the founder and the first President. The Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) was officially inaugurated on 8 March 1977 by the Registrar of Society. The primary objective of the Society is to promote scientific and advancement of all aspects of research and practices of plant protection in Malaysia.

With over 34 years of existence, the Society has grown significantly in terms of membership and to date MAPPS has over 186 members, comprising 85 life members, 101 ordinary members, and 10 sustaining associate members. Its members are drawn from government departments, statutory organizations, research institutes, universities, plantations, and commercial firms all over the country.
Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) was established with the following objectives:
- To develop and promote scientific knowledge on crop protection.
- To create public awareness on the importance and advancing all aspects related to research and practice of plant protection in Malaysia.
- To enhance the role and contribution of scientist involved in crop protection.
- To foster better relationship and understanding among scientist in crop protection and allied disciplines.
